About the facilitator

Hello. I am Jeannie, a psychotherapist, UKCP accredited and practising since 1994 in the Humanistic and Integrative approach. Complementing this, I have been teaching and refining these techniques for the last seven years, with vulnerable people with great results.

About the workshop

This will be a small, safe, supportive group.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TALK ABOUT YOUR DISTRESS or TRAUMA. On the contrary, we do NOT do this because this is a different approach. We will be working with each person’s NEUROBIOLOGY, aiming to find and strengthen THEIR neural pathways that calm THEIR nervous system and DE-ACTIVATE their trauma memories.

YES, you can easily deactivate many trauma memories and repair the damage that keeps the person in their trauma-based responses, nightmares, flashbacks, racing brains, and anxiety. Sounds amazing? Too good to be true? I have seen this work hundreds of times.

You may want to learn these techniques

  • for yourself,
  • to enable you to help others better
  • as a complement to whatever your therapeutic approach is

Now aged 76, I want to pass these techniques on to more people. It is my joy and delight to do this: the privilege of age and experience. This course is being delivered for free, but a donation to PrideSpace Counselling Services would be most appreciated.

  • I will support you to practice these techniques at home in between the weekly sessions.
  • I am working on ensuring the techniques are suitable for the wide range of neurodiversity that will be in any group. So there will be many ways of achieving the same result. The skill is in helping people find what works for them.
  • If  you want to learn more in order to pass these on, there will be an extra opportunity to reflect more deeply on

           what worked

               What didn’t and why

What other options might there be.

I would also be available after the course for some consultation on this.

FAQ

Is there a charge for this workshop?

We are mindful that not everyone is a position to be able to afford to attend good quality mental health workshops, so these workshops are by donation, with a suggested minimum donation of £5 per workshop. This can be paid in advance or at the counter with all major credit and debit cards. However, if this is still unachievable, please reach out to us.

Do I need to come to all the sessions?

It would be great if you could attend all the sessions; however, we know that things can crop up and that it might not be possible to commit to all sessions. Please let our team know if you are unable to attend all the sessions.

Who is running the support group?

This workshop is a joint collaboration between Jeannie Thompson and PrideSpace. Jeannie is a psychotherapist, UKCP-accredited and practising since 1994 in the Humanistic and Integrative approach. PrideSpace is Nottingham’s only LGBTQ+ specific counselling and mental health service. It offers free and low-cost counselling services, as well as workshops, classes and support groups.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Just yourself, everything you need will be provided.

Do I need to join in the discussions?

An important part of group support is being active in discussions, both listening and talking, but you don’t need to share anything with the group that would make you uncomfortable, and you do not need to share your trauma.

Do I need to share anything I don’t want to with the group?

No, if there’s something you’d rather not talk about, you don’t need to share it.

Where will this take place?

Our group will take place on Wednesdays from 6 PM until 8 PM at The Pride Shop on Maid Marian Way. Full details will be provided to you before we start. The room that we will be using is located on the first floor, and unfortunately, there are no lifts. We’re keen to explore ways to make the group accessible, so let us know what you might need to take part in the group.

What will happen in the assessment?

Our assessment is an informal chat with Jeannie – it’s a way for us to get to know a little bit about you and what your needs are. We’ll ask a few questions about what’s going on for you at the moment. What you tell us is confidential, and you don’t have to tell us things that you’re not comfortable with. We’ll go at your pace. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask us any questions you may have.
