8  Digital Practice Policy

Pride Space CIC recognises the growing use of digital technologies in therapy and related services. This policy ensures that our digital practice remains ethical, accessible, and secure for both clients and practitioners.

8.1 Informed Consent

  • Clients will receive a clear explanation of the digital medium, potential risks, and benefits.
  • Explicit consent must be recorded for remote sessions and any digital communication.
  • Clients must be informed of their right to withdraw consent at any time.

8.2 Privacy & Confidentiality

  • Encrypted platforms must be used for video sessions, emails and document sharing.
  • No recordings are made without written consent.
  • Practitioners must work from private, secure locations to ensure confidentiality.

8.3 Accessibility & Digital Exclusion

  • Offer flexible modalities (e.g., phone, video, or in-person) to meet client needs.
  • Where clients lack digital access, provide alternatives or signpost to digital support.
  • Recognise and address the intersection of digital poverty with other systemic barriers.

8.4 Data Protection

  • Comply fully with GDPR and UK Data Protection legislation in digital contexts.
  • Digital records must be stored securely, with access restricted to authorised personnel.
  • Data breaches are reported in accordance with the Data Protection Policy.

8.5 Boundaries and Contracting

  • Professional boundaries apply equally in digital spaces.
  • Clients should not be contacted via personal social media or messaging platforms.
  • Set clear expectations for response times and use of communication channels.

8.6 Training and Competence

  • All practitioners receive training in digital therapy tools, risk management, and ethics.
  • Digital practice is included in supervision and reflective discussions.

8.7 Managing Risk in Remote Settings

  • Complete a remote-specific risk assessment at intake.
  • Discuss contingency plans for disconnection or crisis situations.
  • Identify local emergency services relevant to the client’s location.
